August 25, 2021: Birthday Letter To Dad

Dear Dad,

You would have been 80 years old today. Every year I think it will be less heartbreaking that you are no longer here in your physical body. Every year I am wrong. For some reason, this month has challenged me emotionally.

I am getting your house renovated, and the clean-out crew found your cop uniform and some pics. Instead of throwing those things out as they could have, they put them in the pile of things. It killed my soul. I was DONE for a few days. It was all just so heartbreaking. I literally could NOT pull my crap together. 😭😭😭

The two years since your death has changed me so much, some of which are the following:

🔸Life is STILL short, and i’ve been embracing so much more of it.
🔸I am truly enjoying moments in a way that I never have before in life.
🔸I am surrounded by people who love me.
🔸I no longer think about the people from the past.
🔸I embrace everything about who I am.
🔸I am STILL making money and enjoying life. I plan to do much more of both.
🔸I am coming up on three years at the company, and I have become an integral part of the team’s processes.
🔸I’m teaching the class that I built.
🔸I am going to Key West this year after rescheduling it due to COVID.
🔸I reevaluated how much of an opportunity you gave me with real estate investments.
🔸Your dream will allow me to realize more goals than I thought possible even, just last year.

You have missed so many things, some of which are the following:

🔸X is doing well, and he bought his bus and is renovating it now.
🔸I started an LLC and hired my first consultant.
🔸I’m happier than I’ve ever been in life.
🔸I am in a relationship now.
🔸I am renovating three properties simultaneously.
🔸I sold my childhood home to one of your former colleagues.
🔸I am renovating your house and moving in soon.
🔸X will take over managing the duplex.

What I will do today:
🔸Light a white candle in your memory.
🔸Check on renovations.
🔸Check on the consultant for my LLC.
🔸Ponder what’s in store for me next.
🔸Go to Cracker Barrel because that was your jam.
🔸Play Serpentine Fire, by Earth Wind & Fire on vinyl.

What I will do this year:
🔸Enjoy more life than I’ve ever enjoyed.
🔸Live more.
🔸Love more.
🔸Travel more.
🔸Embrace more.
🔸Experience more.
🔸Secure MORE bags

You taught me so much, and I will continue to live my life based on some of those life lessons. The lessons I will continue to focus on are to stand in my truth even if it’s unpopular, always lead, and don’t follow fools. I will be embracing those lessons for the next fifty years. You were not perfect, but will always be my superhero.
