Christmas 2020: Letter to Dad

Dear Dad,
2020 sucked for the world, but it was good for me. The world is in chaos politically, racially, financially, and medically. We are living through something that was once only a part of history books. It is surreal.

Although the world is in complete chaos, I am thriving. Although I am often sad that you are no longer here, I have moved beyond the place where it causes heart-wrenching pain. I will always be sad that I will no longer see you and talk to you. I miss that so much. Although you are no longer here in your physical form, I know you are still with me in another form

What I am doing today:
🔸 I am going to light a lavender candle for you, grandma, and Uncle Richard.
🔸 I am going to call my guardian angel family that you sent me.
🔸 I am going to listen to Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration.
🔸 I will have a meatless dinner of collard greens, mac & cheese, and candied sweet potatoes. You would hate that.
🔸 I planned to have a gift exchange with Xae and Maggie, but their presents have been sitting in the post office since December 15th. That’s because the clown of a White House resident, frigged up the Post Office.
🔸 Overall, it will be a quiet Christmas because we still are living through a plague.

What you missed:
🔸 We are living through a plague, and people are not handling it well.
🔸 Trump did not handle the pandemic well initially, which led to something resembling a horror movie, but it is really happening.
🔸 I paid off your funeral. PFFCU was salty because they love when I keep that revolving line of credit maxed out. Too bad, those days are over.
🔸 I will pay off all bills except my mortgage and student loan by April.
🔸 I am still blogging, but I stopped creating videos and podcasts.
🔸 I am teaching Salesforce regularly.
🔸 I started a garden, inside and outside. I grow Romaine lettuce on the window sill.
🔸 I am still going to therapy. My therapist is like an angel on earth. She helped me unravel everything I had been carrying around for years. She’s legit, my super hero.
🔸 I am on the Board of Directors of a non-profit organization, Hood Medicine. I act as Marketing Director. You would have talked me out of doing this because there’s no revenue involved, but I’m happy to be involved with this cause. The founder is amazing.
🔸 I joined the Diversity & Inclusion Committee at work. You would have told me not to get involved, just make my money, and keep it moving, but it has been great.
🔸 My company gave every eligible employee stock in the company.
🔸 I started an LLC, and you would LOVE what I am about to do.
🔸 My next LLC will be in the real estate industry. You would love it, but you would probably want me to be careful.
🔸 Real Estate in Philly is booming. You would love that so much.
🔸 Xae has a lovely girlfriend. She is so perfect for him.
🔸 Xae bought a bus, and he is making a traveling home so he can travel the world.
🔸 The addition of Xae’s girlfriend has allowed us to form a new family structure.
🔸 It is time for all of us to make a fresh start.

Goals I accomplished, since the last Christmas Letter.
🔸 I am still holding all real estate. Equity is building.
🔸 Since we are in a plague, I did not spend as much time with people as I wanted.
🔸 I am making more friends and being way more social. I am doing it virtually because of the plague.
🔸 I started exercising by way of cardio toning.
🔸 I gave up all fast food.
🔸 I gave up all sugary cereal, like Crunch Berries and Lucky Charms.
🔸 I make candles, body washes, and lotion using coconut oil and shea butter.
🔸 I am at the best place I’ve ever been in life, financially, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
🔸 I am happy.

What I will do in 2021:
🔸 I am going to continue to re-craft this new life for myself.
🔸 I am going to move aggressively toward my fresh start.
🔸 I am going to continue to be happy.

You taught me so much, and I will continue to live my life based on those life lessons. Some of those lessons were to stand in my truth even if it’s unpopular, always lead, and don’t follow fools. I will be embracing those lessons for the next fifty years. You will always be my superhero.
