My statement stands that 2020 is totally TRASH. It is so horrible because all of what is happening is 100% out of our hands as individuals. We are living through an era that makes no sense and could have been prevented, at the most, and minimized, at the very least. That doesn’t change the fact that we are embroiled in a full-blown shit storm of craziness.

It’s 2020, and we previously had safeguards in place to offset or, at the very least, minimize the impact of a dang plague. It is most unfortunate that those policies that were put in place by ALL previous presidents were unraveled around 2016.

In addition to a dang plague, we are dealing with an uprising that has been brewing for centuries. The climate has been exacerbated since 2016, and here we are.

The plague will continue to spread because there are willfully ignorant folks that have varying degrees of ideas about this plague. None of which will help curtail the spread.

Some of the things I’ve heard:
🔸It’s a conspiracy, and the virus is not deadly even though it’s killed hundreds of thousands of people.
🔸The plague was created to make the 2016 White House occupant look bad.
🔸It’s a conspiracy by the left.

All of this has led to the spread of the virus because people are not wearing masks or social distancing. Instead, they are frolicking at the beach, going to bars, and parties all while NOT social distancing. All of these willfully ignorant paths will inevitably lead to lots more death.

So with all of these things in place, NORMAL folks are experiencing extreme challenges with coping with all of the “NOT NORMAL” things that are adversely impacting our lives. The best thing we can do under circumstances that we can’t change is to create a new normal that may help us cope during these trying times.

I am lucky that I’d started to create my new normal at the end of last year. That path was due to a life challenge that sent me spiraling and forced me to create a new normal. So, I admit that I am a bit ahead of the game as I’m living in my own personal world that has been uprooted. With that said, finding my new normal has been an ongoing process.

If you are still working from home, create a routine just as if you are working. If you work a traditional 9-5 day, stick to that while you are working from home as well. Take a lunch break while working from home, even if it’s just a designated time to just walk away from your desk or home office for a while.

Incorporate some exercise into your life. This one was hard for me because I tend to get wrapped up into my work way too much, and I’m a little lazy in regard to exercise. 🥴🥴🥴 Recently I started going out to walk a few times per week. It’s been great because it helps in multiple areas. Those areas include exercise, vitamin D, and it helps with being stuck in the house. I am really enjoying the exercise way more than I thought possible.

Selfcare is so essential. It is new to me, and I just started on this path last year. I have to continue to remind myself that it is something that I must do because I deserve it. Selfcare is especially important now when we are experiencing such challenging times in our daily lives.

Selfcare for me has been, enjoying the following:

🔸Gardening – I started a small container garden that has turned into a bit of a jungle on my step. I’m growing carrots, lettuce, and tomatoes. I am additionally, growing peppers, and these plants are close to 5 foot high. I have never seen pepper plants this tall. I look forward to an abundance of peppers to pickle. I also have a cucumber plant that is growing well. I just pulled my first cucumbers yesterday.

Left to right: Peppers, carrots in the first grow bag. Cucumbers in the second.
Little pots in front: Mesclun mixed greens, Romaine & tomatoes.

🔸Cooking – I have been honing my pizza making skills. I usually make marinara sauce from scratch for chicken and onion pizza. I recently made a BBQ turkey bacon pizza. It had uncured turkey bacon, caramelized onion, sundried apricot bbq sauce, red pepper, parmesan, and mozzarella cheese.

🔸Spotify Playlists – Includes some amazing music that has become a part of my everyday life. I listen to it all day as a part of my workflow.

🔸Bubble Baths – Self-explanatory.

🔸Bluetooth earbuds to listen to Spotify, during bubble baths.

🔸Meditation – I started meditating after music during bubble baths, and right before bedtime. It helps to clear my mind, which allows me to sleep peacefully.

🔸Unplugging – It is so important to take time away from the abundance of negativity that can onslaught you. Media is in the business of reporting what is sensational. That is good for advertising connected to media, but I have found that it’s not good for me.

🔸Therapy – My therapist is an effing superhero. 🦸🏽‍♀️ Nothing else.

There is no right way or wrong way to adjust to our new normal but know that it is important that we find a way to add some joy to our lives. That can be difficult, but it is so essential especially during such challenging times. Whatever you do, just be easy with yourself.

I would love to know your thoughts on coping in our new normal. Reach out, let’s chat on FBIG, and Twitter. Until then, Be STRONG, Be SAFE, wear a mask, social distance and or STAY HOME!
