Organic Foods, Gardening, Chakra Balancing, Essential Oils, Crystals, Meditation, And More During The Plague.
5 min readI have said many times that 2020 is absolute TRASH. Actually, it’s more like the funky juice that leaks from a municipal waste truck on a 102 degree summer day in the city. YES, it’s that level of garbage.
After a super challenging 2019, I had hopes that 2020 would be a great year that involves traveling and catching up on all of the things I wanted to do, forever. With that said, although 2020 has been TRASH, I have really used the time immersing myself in MYSELF.
There’s absolutely nothing that I can do about the chaos that is happening outside of my world. So, I chose not to focus on that excessively. I understand that there’s a certain amount of privilege involved with that because I don’t have the same worries that others have. I am eternally grateful that I am in the space that I am in, and I thank God for it every day.
In 2019, I started going to therapy, which allowed me to work on myself emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to align all of those things. I will always feel like going to therapy was one of the best things I’ve ever done in life. I will additionally feel blessed to have found a therapist that gave me the tools needed to unravel so many things and start on a new path on this journey called life. For the last year, so much of what has been cathartic and life-changing for me has been directly linked to therapy.
Therapy helped me shift my mindset to taking care of me. That involves:
Organic Foods: The foods that you put into your body is so important. Sadly organic foods are super expensive. So there were times when I couldn’t afford to eat healthier. I recognize that I am blessed to be able to do so now.
Before the plague, I was eating organic food, about 60% of the time. Now I am eating about 75% – 85% organic. It has made a difference in how I feel and how my body reacts to the fibroids I am constantly battling.
Vitamins & Supplements: In addition to organic foods, I have increased my vitamin and supplements. So much so that I had to get one of those pillboxes as my grandmother had. I recently increased my intake quite a bit and, I feel fantastic due to this.
🔸Upon waking: 1 Aciidophilus, Two Billion
🔸AM: 1- 50 mcg Vitamin D3, 1- Garlic Parsley, 1- 1000 mg Vitamin C, 3 – 1,000 mg MSM
🔸Before Dinner: 1 Aciidophilus, Two Billion
🔸PM: 2 – 1,000 mg Omega-3, 1- B-Complex, 1-100 mg of B-6
🔸Before Bed: 1 Aciidophilus, Two Billion
Gardening: Early in the pandemic, I felt a strong urge to grow my own food. So I purchased seeds, “grow bags” and grow lights because I knew it was something that I wanted to continue doing. Growing my vegetables has been so rewarding. Right now, I have romaine lettuce ready to eat on my window sill grow boxes. I later realized that gardening was a great way to balance the Root Chakra. That explained why I was compelled to do it.
Chakra Balancing: This was something that I was very unfamiliar with until going to therapy, but I am about it now. I often write about the Sacral Chakra because that’s a focus for me, but there are other chakras I plan to pay a lot more attention to moving forward.
Aligning your chakras allows you to feel balanced and at one with the world in which you live. You are in sync with yourself emotionally, creatively, and sexually. That involves sensuality, adaptability to change, how you deal with intimacy, how you interact socially, how you connect to others as well as the healthiness of your sexual relationships.
Shea Butter & Coconut Oil: Living as healthy as I can, has become so essential to me. I was eating the best foods but still slathering myself with all of the toxins in traditional lotions, soaps, and body washes.
The skin is the largest organ in the body. So it just didn’t make sense that I was focusing so much on what I put in my body and not what I put on my body.
A part of my battle with fibroids has made me change how I eat. The secondary aspect of that is eliminating estrogen-mimicking substances. That meant finding products or making products that were natural for my personal care. So, I started making my own lotions and body washes with shea butter and coconut oil bases. It’s been a week of discarding the products with toxins in them and using the shea butter and coconut oil lotions and body washes I made. I immediately felt the difference.
Essential Oils: I have been studying the uses of essential oils, and some are thought to have healing and balancing properties. I use essential oils in a diffuser and in my homemade lotions and body washes. Some oils like lavender are said to balance hormones and help you sleep. Another favorite of mine is orange with I use to help balance the sacral chakra.
Crystals: Stones are beautiful, but they are more so when they have a purpose beyond just looking pretty. I mentioned the importance of balancing your chakras previously. Crystals can help do that. I am blessed to know a jeweler at Earth & Fire, who makes custom pieces that I use for chakra balancing. I additionally have a crystal bonsai tree to keep things balanced in my space as well.
Meditation: Relaxation and turning my brain off used to be so difficult for me. I think a lot of people have this issue because the world is going a mile a minute all the time. Social media, streaming, and being constanty tuned in exacerbates this.
I meditate every night while using essential oils in my diffuser as apart of my bedtime routine. It helps me to relax and get a great night’s sleep.
Healing: We are living through a tough time due to the things that are going on in the world. It is so important that we are trying to start and or continue healing from the hurts that life has served us. You can’t go through life without dealing with tough times, but it’s so important to start and continue our journey of healing.
I started on my journey last year, and I’ve made so much progress. I consider myself mostly healed, but it’s a lifelong journey.
Reading: At one time, I read one book every week. After grad school, I didn’t have time for recreational reading. Additionally, I read so much in grad school that I was, frankly just tired of reading.
I recently got involved with two book clubs. One of the book clubs is from my 9-5 job, and one is a virtual book club that I started. We are “reading” The 1619 Project next. WHEW LAWD, if you have an opportunity to check out the article or podcast, you really should.
